Frank Gifford, NFL Hall of Famer- turned-Monday Night Football com mentator (till ’98) tells Jeanne Wolf in Parade: “Today players get paid a lot more than I did. They’re enormously wealthy. Soon they’ll have lawyers, nutritionists and workout trainers . . . And with the benefit of planning to play pro football from when they’re in high school, some are so great that they stand out more than when I played, especially quarterbacks like the Mannings and Brady. After them the playing goes down a notch,” which “may make the others mad at me but it’s true . . . and when it gets slow, I usually end up going to sleep.”
