NBA news

Deron Williams will not play on Friday due to his hyper-extended wrist.
He said he couldn't even hold a ball because of the injury, and we're just hoping he feels better for Sunday's matchup vs. the Warriors. Earl Watson will start at PG and intends to push the tempo as the Jazz try to break their unusual six-game losing streak.

Nicolas Batum's MRI came back negative, revealing only a bone bruise in his left knee. He is listed as day-to-day.

Paul Pierce, who was iffy for Thursday with a sprained ankle, suffered a thigh bruise against the Blazers leaving him questionable for Friday's game against Phoenix.
He caught a knee during the game and headed to the locker room shortly before the game ended. He should get treatment today and will likely be a game-time decision. It doesn't sound serious, but Coach Doc Rivers gives rests his players if he hears a sneeze, and his ankle problem isn't going to help matters. Pierce could be due for a night off.

To nobody's surprise, Yao Ming was voted as the West's starting center for the All-Star game. He will not even attend the game, as he will be rehabbing his stress fracture and ankle injury.
Yao has been voted into the All-Star game eight times in his nine seasons, thanks to a huge amount of fan votes from China. The league will name a replacement, but this still highlights the flaws of the current voting system.
